Kate Sayers, LPC
Licensed Professional Counselor
Pronouns: She / Her / Hers
I’ll help you heal attachment wounds, discover unhelpful patterns, and get back the life that trauma has taken away.
My practice specializes in serving my peers in the LGBTQIA+ community and women-identified folks. Why? Because these are marginalized communities. In today’s world, women & queer humans need a dedicated space just for us.
I have extensive training and experience working with different types of trauma, PTSD (post-traumatic stress disorder), and anxiety disorders (OCD, generalized anxiety). Trauma comes in many forms – early childhood experiences, unwanted sexual contact, emotional abuse, and relationship-based involving the important people in your life. I believe whole-heartedly that no trauma is ‘unhealable’.
I proudly serve those in the transgender, gender non-conforming / expansive, and non-binary communities. Whether you are in the beginning stages of questioning your gender and/or sexual identity or have been out for many years and looking for ways to celebrate your identity(ies), my hope is that therapy offers a place to process all the hurt, joy, and trauma - free from judgement.
My approach is rooted in attachment principles, behavior-change practices, Schema theory, and LGBTQ+ Affirming Therapy. I also often use a therapy method called prolonged exposure therapy – PE for short. This method has been used and studied for decades (including at the VA); there’s a reason for this – because it truly works! I believe cultural identity is integral to the treatment process.
I strive to create a therapy space where you feel cared for, deeply seen, and encouraged. Therapy is the place to make mistakes, learn, grow, and develop new confidence. The goal is to help you reclaim your power, your freedom, and live a life with passion. Together, we’ll work towards navigating your life free from trauma –with courage and pride.
Experience
My clinical career began in 2013. I’ve worked in different care settings including hospital-based care (partial hospitalization and intensive outpatient programs), as a case manager, and in the outpatient setting. My resumé includes supervising new clinicians and training other therapists to use prolonged exposure therapy as a treatment for PTSD.
Working in many different levels of care allows me to have a great understanding of systems and keeps me connected to community resources should we need to use them.
